  • a word that doesn't translate easily

A lot of times people mistakenly use the words "interpreter" and "translator" interchangeably. An interpreter performs the act of orally changing one language to another, while keeping the same meaning; translator performs the same act, only done with written words.

translate = scribed, the written word

Interpret = oral, the spoken word

This should help you determine whether you need an interpreter or a translator.

Translators usually work by themselves. They do not usually appear in-person, by telephone, or by video. A translator's work product is written and can be used over and over again.

All translators should be trained on how to translate correctly and convey the exact meaning as close as possible from the originating language to the target language.

Of course, good training is required in order to be a translator. Much study of vocabulary and how to convey the proper meaning is required.

However, the best training is not enough; a good translator must understand and follow the ethics required by the State and by Central Interpretation & Translation Service. All of our translators read the ethics, watch several videos regarding ethics, and sign a document promising to abide by the ethics.

In addition to vocabulary and exact  meanings of words and phrases, translators as most often familiar with the best modes of delivery to fit your needs:

Our translators are all sub-contractors. In other words, they are not employees of Central Interpretation & Translation Services. All translators sign a sub-contrator agreement. Likewise, the client (you) will be required to sign an agreement, a contract for services performed. Please go to "Legal" for a sample of that Agreement.

Once you have determined you need a translator and have scheduled one to translate for you, you will need to know how to work with translators. Please go to the "Services" page under "Working With Interpreters and Translators" to understand what to expect and how to work with translators.

Translators are people too! Try and make your experience working with a translator(s) pleasant for everyone!
